2017 October 20th CALA Educational Seminar

This year’s October 20th, 2017 Annual CALA Educational Seminar, thanks to our headline sponsor Magna Legal Services, will be located at Magna’s Charleston Headquarters at 960 Morrison Drive, Suite 200, Charleston, SC 29403.

We have a fantastic lineup of speakers, a more flexible schedule for our members, onsite vendors and corporate sponsors, fantastic food as well as a reception to follow! We are working to accommodate online registration and payment for the convenience of our members and will provide this information shortly.

Susan G. Komen’s Lowcountry Race for the Cure falls on October 21st, 2017 and our corporate sponsor, A.W.R. has graciously agreed to team up with CALA in our efforts for the cause.

Race for the Cure contributors, late race packet pickup and vendors in support of the cause will also be on site along with our corporate sponsor in a designated vendor area.

Our current lineup of speakers, in no particular order, are as follows:

  • Keynote: Meliah Bowers Jefferson, Esq. (Chairperson of the S.C. Bar Paralegal Board) Has graciously agreed to come down to Charleston to speak on the latest develops of the voluntary S.C. Certified Paralegal Program.
  • Lindsay Mazell, a CALA Corporate Sponsor and Executive Account Manager at AppleOne, will be speaking and providing valuable material regarding how paralegal labor markets differ among states with established state-level certification programs, bar affiliated and non bar affiliated and states which do not have comparable programs in place. She is a great resource to those in our field looking to advance in their current position or currently job searching.
  • Chris Quick, retired FBI Agent and founder of Quick Group, LLC, will speak on, “Investigative and Legal Perspectives from a Former FBI Agent and Private Investigator.
  • Ryan Butler, Esq., Partner at Butler & College Law Firm, will speak regarding the challenges of Probate Law applicable to the field of Real Estate Law.
  • Dana Fields, Esq.,  Fields Law Office, LLC, will speak on Immigration Law; specifics coming soon.
  • Katie McElveen, Esq., Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman, LLC, was a former paralegal and now successful attorney which allows her a unique and beneficial perspective. Mrs. McElveen will speak on the Unauthorized Practice of Law.
  • David Aylor, Esq., David Aylor Law Offices, will speak on a topic TBD in relation to the field of Criminal Law.
  • William Slater, of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), will speak on a topic TBD; more information to follow.
  • Ross Suter on behalf of MAGNA Legal Services, CALA’s headline Corporate Sponsor for the 2017 Annual Educational Seminar, will speak regarding “How Social Media Can Help Win Your Case.”
